Student diary in Boston, Aug 19

In today’s lesson, we summarized what we’ve learned from the sessions so far and brainstormed ideas for products or websites that could attract many people, along with strategies to promote them. In my group, we came up with the idea of a robot called Study Pet to help with studying, and we presented it in the style of a TV commercial. While some presentations were serious, ours had a humorous touch, which made me feel more comfortable and less nervous than usual.

In the afternoon, we visited Quincy Market. While shopping there, our group leader told me about the Boston Tea Party. It was fascinating to connect what I had learned in history class in Japan to a real place.

Later, we did a science activity that involved four experiments: fingerprints, chemical analysis, hair analysis, and chromatography, to find a culprit. It was a valuable experience, as many of these experiments were new to me.

In the morning at the hostel, a man spoke to me, but I couldn’t understand his English at all, so I couldn’t hold a conversation. I really wanted to talk to people, so I felt frustrated that I couldn’t communicate well. I’m determined to do my best to talk with people I don’t know while I’m here. There isn’t much time left, so I’ll make the most of it.
